Music Remedy MD

Healing through the power of music.

( 01 ) The idea

Mateo is in his first year of university, working toward becoming a doctor. Along the way he found that music reaches kids in places words sometimes can't.

Music Remedy MD is where those two paths meet: piano lessons built for autistic children and every young beginner, taught with the patience and care of someone training to heal.

( 02 ) Who is Mateo

For four years Mateo has laced up his skates with HADC, helping developmentally challenged children and adults find their feet on the ice. Now he is bringing that same patience to the piano, one small hand and one first note at a time.

Leadership

Leading on the rink and at the keys means consistency: the same calm face, the same routine, every single session.

Medicine

Every lesson and every shift on the ice is practice for the doctor Mateo is working to become: one who listens first.

HADC gives developmentally challenged children and adults a team, a jersey and a place on the ice. Mateo has been there for four seasons, skating alongside players, tying skates, and cheering every first stride.

The HADC Gladiators

The Hockey Association for the Developmentally Challenged was founded in 1995 so that every player, regardless of age, ability or gender, could feel the joy of a team. The Gladiators play out of the Gord and Irene Risk Community Centre Arena in North York and travel each year to the Special Hockey International tournament. Their number one rule: have fun.

HADC is a registered charity with no outside funding. Every season, every jersey and every tournament trip runs on donations.
